Terms of service
Last updated October 18, 2026
The short version
- How to Play is free to play. The website is supported by ads; the desktop and Steam versions have none.
- Use it to learn and have fun, and don't misuse it.
- Your account is yours to look after. Your progress is yours; you can delete it whenever you like.
- We provide the game as it is and can't promise it will always be available or error-free.
- PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and Steam aren't connected to us; their names are used only to show which buttons to press.
1. These terms
These terms apply when you use How to Play at howtoplay.fun, as a desktop app or through Steam (the "game"). By using the game you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the game. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your information.
2. Using the game
You can use the game for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please don't:
- break, overload or interfere with the game or the services it uses,
- try to get into other people's accounts or data,
- copy, sell or redistribute the game or its art, music or sound, except as the law allows,
- use the game to break the law.
3. Accounts
You don't need an account to play. If you make one, you're responsible for keeping access to your email, Google or GitHub account secure. If you're young, ask a parent or guardian before making an account; they can ask us to delete it at any time. You can stop using your account at any time and ask us to delete it by emailing [email protected]. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
4. Your progress
Your practice progress and records belong to you. You let us store and process them only to run the game for you, as described in the privacy policy.
5. Our content
The game, its design and code, and its original art belong to us. Some assets are used under licence and belong to their creators: the hand illustration (Vecteezy.com), and music and sound effects (Pixabay). These are listed in Settings → Credits.
PlayStation, DualSense, Xbox, Nintendo, Switch and Steam are trademarks of their owners. How to Play isn't made, sponsored or approved by them; their names and button symbols are shown only so you know which buttons to press.
6. Ads
The website shows ads from Google beside the game, which keep it free. Ads are provided by Google and its partners, who are responsible for them; we don't endorse the products advertised. The privacy policy explains how ads use your information. The desktop and Steam versions don't show ads.
7. Reminders and emails
If you have an account, we send sign-in emails you ask for and a daily practice reminder, which you can turn off in Settings or with the link in any reminder.
8. Changes to the game
We're improving the game all the time. We may add, change or remove features, and we may stop offering the game. If we plan to shut down accounts, we'll give you notice so you can stop using it.
9. No warranty
The game is free and provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we don't promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or suited to any particular purpose, or that your progress will never be lost. Take breaks, and stop if your hands or wrists hurt.
10. Limit of liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the game. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer where you live.
11. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where the operator of How to Play is established. Wherever you live, you also keep any protections your local consumer law gives you.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the game or by email about important changes before they take effect. If you keep using the game after that, the new terms apply.
